The Red Turtle

This account of a castaway on a tropical island surrounded by turtles, crabs and birds is simultaneously a universal story about all the fundamental moments in a person’s life. Without using a single word, and by employing perfectly crafted animation, Oscar award winning director, Michaël Dudok de Wit, tells of self-discovery, love, parenthood, and even changing generations. This magical motion picture, understandable to all generations across all continents, received the Prix Spécial in the Un Certain Regard category of the Cannes Film Festival. It was Japanese cult studio Ghibli’s first European coproduction.
